Peru / 017 The mesa, Spanish for table, has been developed by Peruvian shamans as a tool to focus one's energy. In this picture, taken in a museum, the shaman has laid out what he considers sacred objects to help him center his energy. Beside him are two indigenous Peruvian guinea pigs. Guinea pigs are still raised in many Peruvian households for their meat. In Chavin at least one restaurant had Guinea pig on the menu.
