| Cairns and Ngawha Springs / 024 This is a traditional Maori cultural capital of this part of New Zealand, Ngawha Springs. (They pronounce it Nafa, like NASA, with an F.) There are no stores, industries, or proper hotels here. The place is so remote that in the last few years the NZ government has built a prison just outside of town. To keep prisoners from plotting ways to escape, the government has blocked all cell phone usage in this area. The springs are in the distance, beyond the lake. |
