Looking across the camp towards the ocean in the distance. Before the camp was built the area had been used by the indigenous Negrito people as part of the area where they performed their hunting and gathering. The camp housed about 19,000 people in two sections, Phase I and Phase II. The Buddha statue you see here was erected by a Western Buddhist monk who ran a small temple for refugees at the edge of Phase II.. The camp was poorly designed, built, and maintained. The surrounding countryside was spectacular. |
